February kicks off with the tail end of Bangkok Design Week which is running from 26 January to 3 February around the Bangkok riverside and elsewhere. Under the theme of “Fusing Forward” Bangkok Design Week seeks to highlight the city’s potential of being a gathering place for creatives and producers in various disciplines. Activities are centred around Bangkok’s riverside communities including Charoenkrung and Klong San as well as Rama I and Sukhumvit Road. For more information visit

In the north, the popular Chiang Mai Flower Festival returns on 1-4 February. In existence for over 40 years, the event celebrates the region’s wealth of flowers with a vibrant display of both modern and ancient Lanna floral art. The main event is a large parade where floral artists display their works on floats across the city, and visitors will also be able to view exhibitions of ornamental plants, music shows and competitions.

People across the world will celebrate the Year of the Pig on Chinese New Year which falls on 5 February, and Thailand is no different. Two of the most popular places to watch the festivities are Bangkok’s Chinatown and Phuket Town but smaller towns and communities will also mark the occasion with fire crackers, red lanterns and processions. Many hotels and restaurants around the country will also have special promotions and events to mark the new year.

Those who like trance music should head to Phuket for the UnKonscious Beach Festival 2019 on 8-9 February. Celebrated as Asia’s Biggest Trance Festival on the Beach, the two-day festival will take place at Patong’s Paradise Beach Phuket with headliners such as Giuseppe Ottaviani and Simon Patterson. February is of course the month of love with Valentine’s Day celebrated on 14 February. Hotels and restaurants across the country will put on special deals and offers so keep an eye out for that romantic dinner or getaway to impress that special someone!

Sticking with the love theme, the annual Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony will take place on 12-14 February in Trang province. As the name suggests, this is your chance to tie the knot in a special ceremony under water. Couples will have to be certified scuba divers to take part and will come away with not only a wedding certificate but also a memory to last a lifetime.

Gasoline junkies should head to Pattaya on 14-16 February for the Burapa Bike Week. One of the most anticipated annual events in the seaside resort, Burapa Bike Week draws thousands of visitors from Bangkok and beyond who enjoy a weekend of live music, parades, exhibitions and entertainment. One of the main events –“Ride for Peace”, a motorbike parade through Pattaya – culminates in a rock music concert in the evening.

February is also a good month if you’re into music. Electronic music producer and DJ Christopher Comstock, better known as Marshmello, returns to Bangkok on 20 February for a concert at Crystal Design Center. Known for his remixes of hits such as Justin Bieber’s “Where Are U Now” and “Beautiful Now” by Zedd, Marshmello is sure to get the crowds roaring. Tickets are for sale at
