Thailand event round-up: May 2019

The month kicks off with the shopping spree that is Thailand One Stop Shopping Expo Pattaya, on until 5 May. The country’s biggest shopping expo, TOSSE Pattaya will feature around a dozen different departments showcasing everything including Green Living & Energy; Wedding; Electronics; Garden & Pet; Baby & Family; Fashion, Beauty & Jewelry; Fashion Street Market; Hiso Market; Net Idol & Social Market and Leather, to name but a few. The month is bookended by two of the most popular yachting and sailing events on the calendar. It starts with the popular Top of the Gulf Regatta 2019 which returns to to the waters around Pattaya from 20 April to 5 May for the 15th time. With racing days extended to five, the regatta welcomes includes up to 16 classes, including keelboats, multihulls, one-design Platus, beach catamarans, dinghies, Optimists and an IOM Class RC Yachts.

The other highly anticipated yachting event is Samui Regatta, held since 2002, which will take place from 25 May to 1 June in the waters around Samui. Known to attract some of the best yachts in Asia, Samui Regatta is organised by Regattas Asia, under the auspices of the Province of Surat Thani, the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Municipal of Koh Samui, the Tourism Association of Koh Samui, The Tourism Association of Thailand, World Sailing and the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand.

There is no shortage of running events in May. Run For King (distances of 7km and 10km) takes marks the coronation of His Majesty the King on on 5 May at the Indoor Stadium Huamak. Then on 12 May, no less than five races are scheduled: Hua Hin Marathon 2019 (5km, 10km, 21km, 42km, starting at Wat Khao Krailart in Hua Hin); Run 4 Dams Half Marathon Series 2019 (5km, 10km, 21km, starting at Pa Sak Jolasid Dam in Phattana Nikhon in Lopburi); Udonthani Half Marathon 2019 (5km, 10.5km, 21km, starting at Nongprajak Public Park); Bangkok Airways Krabi Half Marathon (5km, 10km, 21km, starting at Thara Park); and Ultraman Run 2019 (3km, 12km, starting at NongNooch Garden Pattaya).

The following weekend on 18 May will see Sattahip Sundown Run 2019, which offers distances of 5km, 10km and 21km, and Supersports 10 Mile International Run and PAT Mini Marathon (5km, 10km) both on 19 May. On 25 May the popular Amari Watergate Bangkok Charity Midnight Run 2019 (6km, 12km) returns to the Petchaburi road in Bangkok and Hat Yai Marathon 2019 (4km, 10km, 21km, 42km) to the area around the southern city.

Music lovers have a full schedule ahead of them, starting 15 May with Australian indie rock band Last Dinosours at RCA. The following day on 16 May, Korean-American singer-songwriter Japanese Breakfast who will play at Rockademy Thailand and on 25 May Pink Cloud Music & Art Festival 2019 will turn Thai Wake Park into ax explosion of sound, colour and art. Perhaps the most anticipated concert of them all in May is Jason Mraz as he returns to Asia for the Good Vibes Tour. Held at Impact Arena on 21 May, the American singer-songwriter is expected to woo his fans with hits like “I’m Yours”, “Lucky” and “I Won’t Give Up”. Tickets are for sale via
